Lately, I’ve been in a weird funk. Nothing bad. Nothing horrible. Just different. I for some reason have been caught up on my failures, my mistakes, my mess-ups, and my inabilities.  So I found myself asking, “Why?” Why have I allowed myself to continuously think of these things that bring me down?  It’s like I chained myself to a boulder and pushed it off a cliff into the ocean.  Now comes the realization.

ImageI’m not perfect.  No one is perfect.  No one has come close to perfect.  No one will ever be perfect.  So through my failures and imperfections, I have found myself realizing I have something in common with every person that has stepped foot on this planet.  Each and every one of us has this in common, it’s a fact and an inevitability that you can not escape.

This post may have started off like a shot at everyone and it may have come off as a pessimist’s look at the world.

HOLD IN THERE, IT GETS BETTER!

One of the greatest minds in American History, Thomas Edison, said one of my favorite quotes of all time.

It is every mistake, every failure, and every imperfection that creates the pathway to success.  Without mistakes you would never learn.  When you succeed you are not learning new things, you are just using the knowledge you already have.

Every time you fail, you learn. Image

Every mistake is a learning opportunity.

Every small imperfection in all the activities you take part in creates who you are.

It is those “10,000 ways that don’t work” that builds your knowledge and appreciation for reaching your final goal. Yeah it may suck when those 10,000 ways are your first 10,000 tries, but it’s those attempts that make the final step, the one you take to pass the finish line, that much sweeter.

What’s holding you back?  What’s making you hesitate?  Don’t ever let the fear of failing, the fear of imperfection, and the fear of making mistakes dictate the path you want to travel down.  It’s one step at a time.  One foot in front of the other.  Inch by inch.  Step by step.  Attempt after attempt.  It’s time to be tenacious and to never back down.

Fight for what you want no matter what the terrain in front of you looks like.

Struggling

I realized something today… everyone is struggling with something other people aren’t struggling with. It is this reason that opening up to people and talking to close friends will allow you to become a better, happier, and more confident person. I, for one, struggle with my self-esteem, I hide that by acting out and being sarcastic a lot, sometimes too much!

Many people I know, including myself, allow themselves to become trapped by insecurities and struggles that they are aware of. It is up to each and every one of us to realize our weaknesses and reverse them into something much more powerful…. Optimism and hope! What’s the point as human beings to be destroyed by negativity and doubt when all we have to do is open ourselves a tiny bit and talk to close friends?

I understand sometimes talking to others about small problems is sometimes the weakness being faced, but allowing yourself to open up to people only allows you to be stronger in the future. Practice makes perfect with this idea! Sometimes the first person you open up to is not the ideal person and you feel like shutting down, but
DON’T! It is in that very instant that each and every one of us should realize we are beyond that feeling of hopelessness and abandonment and begin reaching out to others.

Practice doesn’t only make perfect, it ends up making friends, family, happiness, trust, and so much more. Over the next few weeks I challenge each and every person that reads this post to reach out and talk to someone about something, ANYTHING! Talk to them about an awful test, a fading relationship, a mistake, or any other event in your life! With time talking can become your best therapy, your best lifeline! Use that “phone a friend” lifeline we’ve been given for free our whole lives and talk to someone. Maybe the first time won’t go so well, but it’s that one time it does that will change your life!

It’s the one time. The one time someone gives you good advice. The one time someone helps you through a predicament. The one time a friend says just the right thing to change any doubt you may have had about yourself.

It’s time we all open up for that ONE TIME! If we don’t, we may never experience all that life and relationships have to offer! The great thing about having over 6 billion people on this planet is that someone somewhere had gone through an experience you need help with and can offer up some sort of advice to help. Finding that person may take perseverance and tenacity, but once you find the right phrase, the right person, and the right advice, you’ll know every tear, doubt, and hurt along the way will be able to be healed because of the helping words of one single person.

Open up. Set your feelings free. Allow yourself to speak about problems. Forget about what some may think about you. It is one kind word or piece of advice that will destroy every negative thing you’ve been said. That one experience will trump all. That one experience will cast a shadow over all negative experiences. That one moment will leave you wanting more, and that is what this is all about. Striving for positivity and optimism in a world that can be considered no more than an ocean of diarrhea and negativity. Find the island or reality. The friend who is optimistic through all. Use that resource. Allow yourself to be consumed in positivity. Anything and Everything can be accomplished when optimism is injected into the core of any plan. Use this positivity from friends as a drug that will allow you to grow and become a better person.

Reach out and touch someone today.
Reach out and be touched today.
Reach out and open up to someone.
Reach out of your comfort zone.
Find that positive outlook.
No struggle can be overcome without optimism and positivity.
No struggle can be reduced without a kind word.
No struggle is going to disappear without a fight.

As Toy Story pointed out, “You’ve got a friend in me”, use this ideal and help someone that needs it! Life isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon. Motivation from friends is what we all need, you’d be surprised how many of your friends are ready to lend a helping hand and a friendly ear. Use your resources and struggling will become less of a headache and more of a growing opportunity.

Like all living things on this planet, we have experiences that can and should be used as a learning opportunity. How do we, as flawed, greatly imperfect humans, learn how to turn negative moments into experiences that will teach you something that can last a lifetime?

Learning is more than just an experiential thing, it’s a nature versus nurture battle. Each experience is a stone in the pathway of past and future experiences. Your life leads you to each experience and each experience along the way is a fork in the road, the path you choose is nothing more than a personal decision based upon a moral compass that may or may not be instilled in you.

All experiences can lead to some kind of learning. How positive or negative the the lesson you learn is your choice, there is really no wrong or right lesson to learn from experiences because each person is an individual that has been formed through the addition of new experiences every day. Positive experiences and learning opportunities tend to lead to positive outlooks and outcomes while negative experiences may lead to a dark path of repeating bad choices.

It is absolutely astonishing to me how one bad choice or one bad act can lead a generally happy person down a road of despair, depression, and the repetition of bad ideas. I know far too many people that have allowed one bad choice to dictate their lives and futures. We all make mistakes but it’s using those mistakes for a positive learning experience that makes the difference. Turn a negative occurrence, a bad grade, a break up, a mistake, or bad choice into a moment of learning that can change the direction of the road you’re on to positivity and optimism.

Experiential learning is an art that takes practice and dedication. It takes the motivation from within, from others, or from other moments you’ve had. It takes a positive attitude to make positive experiences. Cut the crap out of your life, the dead weight, the people, thoughts, ideas, and useless drama that has accumulated and allow yourself to be free. Once you’re free, you allow yourself to have an open mind that can be filled with positive learning experiences. Freedom from negative influences leads to the injection of positivity and optimism needed to travel along a path of greatness and positive experiences.

Don’t allow negative influences and experiences to pave a dark and dreary road for yourself. Every dark pathway has a light on it somewhere that just needs to be lit. Fight for that light. Get to the light and do whatever it takes to get there. Claw and scratch your way towards the light and out of the darkness. Once you light one light, JUST ONE, it illuminates the path enough to find the next. Before you know it, each light on the pathway can and will be lit.

Experiential learning is an occurrence each and every one of us faces on a daily basis. The art is not just within learning, it’s learning positive things from all experiences even when faced with diversity. Illuminate the path before you, it’s much more enjoyable of a walk that way.

Dreaming

Dreams are made up of so many more things than anyone could possibly imagine. Hopes, fears, aspirations, goals, doubts, and experiences all intertwine to form your dreams. Dreaming is your body and soul developing goals and aspirations for you to attain. You dream big and aim big to eventually make it farther than you truly thought you could. Dreams, however, can be extremely frightening. Huge dreams you have for yourself can lead to self-doubt and fear. Honestly…. you can do it though! Dreams and aspirations should be so large and so extravagant that you are terrified and fearful of not reaching it. That’s what makes you work hard. That’s what makes you fight for every inch, for every step, for every small accomplishment that is a building block to the overall goal of life fulfillment.

Dreams are meant to change. Dreams are meant to grow. Dreams are meant to diminish. Most importantly though, dreams are the aspirations you know deep down inside you can reach even though the climb to get there may be unbearable and intense.

Everything you dream and aspire to do can be done with a little innovation, motivation, dedication, and inspiration. Dreaming is nothing more than your brain showing you the finish line of the journey that has already or has yet to begin. Reach the finish line and conquer everything you never thought you could because everything is possible if you just try your hardest. Dream the biggest dreams you can dream and conquer everything you’ve been told is impossible!

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 3,200 times in 2011. If it were a cable car, it would take about 53 trips to carry that many people.

We’ve all heard the proverbial saying “patience is a virtue”, but what does it really mean?  Patience is nothing more than being able to put our wants and desires on hold for a given period of time.  Patience is something all of us want and need but few of us master it.  Patience and I, well… let’s just say we’re not on good terms!  I want so badly sometimes something to just come into my life, something to give me instant satisfaction and gratification.  That’s how I’ve always been, I don’t know why!

Patience is definitely something a virtue that must be practiced and perfected but something that can only be practiced through experiences no one really wants. It shows up at work, at school, with your parents, with your friends, with God, and with essentially everything and everyone you come into contact with.  You even experience having to use patience as a baby, dirty diapers and hunger can’t all be undone in a blink of an eye even though you cry your brains out and want it to be fixed.  Patience is something I struggle with so badly, and it really turns up around this time of the year.  I am one of the MOST impatient people you’ll ever meet around Christmas, I buy presents for friends and family and they buy presents for me and I just want everyone to open everything so I don’t have to wait to see the smiles on their faces when they open their presents.  Patience is something I want and need, but I know it doesn’t just come over night (maybe it’s something I can put on my Christmas list)! So until I begin to master this virtually impossible to master virtue, I will not only wait and practice, but I will keep a good attitude while waiting.  To me, that’s patience, staying optimistic while having to wait for what we desire.

I know for a fact every human on this planet wants something NOW! Sleep, caffeine, food, a drink, family, friends, comfort, a friendly ear, or maybe it’s just one small second of rest from this hectic lifestyle.  But I promise waiting for whatever it is you want and desire will make finally getting it that much better.  Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s…. the wait, it’s unbearable! I want so much, right now!  But I must wait, and that waiting, I know will bring with it more joy.  Take time out of this busy, “it’s all about the here and now”, “I must have it now” materialistic society we all live in, and instead of enjoying what we see in the future and the things we may be getting, think about what we have and are blessed with.  There is so much, and because I know I have so much, I know I can wait and be patient with optimism for what is to come.

Attitude is Everything

Attitude is the way you think.

Your attitude is something other people can actually see

They can hear it in your voice,

See it in the way you move,

Feel it when they are with you.

Your attitude expresses itself in everything you do,

All the time, wherever you are.

Positive attitudes always invite positive results.

Negative attitudes always invite negative results.

Attitude makes a difference every hour, everyday,

In everything you do for your entire life.

What you get out of everything you do,

Will equal the attitude you have when you do it.

If you have a positive attitude, you are looking for ways

To solve the problems you solve,

And are letting go of the things

Over which you have no control.

You can develop a positive attitude by emphasizing the good,

By being tough-minded, and by refusing defeat.

Is the glass half empty or half full for you?

Do you look around and see only negative things or do you look around and see things that can be changed for the better?

Can you see the true good in people?

For one day this week, go out and have a positive attitude about everything!  If something happens that’s bad, brush it off with a “no worries” and keep moving along.  Negative events and pessimism can be just a second of your life or it can control your life, the choice is up to each and every one of us.  Having a positive outlook on life and being optimistic about things around you can be contagious to those around you. I would like nothing more than to see our world begin to be turned around by people being optimistic and positive about the world and the nonsense we endure and live through on a daily basis!

Go out, be positive, be optimistic, show the world what you have goin’ for you and keep your chin up through thick and thin!  Change the world one smile and one positive attitude at a time!  I promise you’ll be shocked how your daily relationships with everyone you encounter begin to change when positivity comes into play.

What is wrong with this world!

Day in and day out the news shows me things so morally wrong, so ethically disgusting, and so obviously (for lack of a better word) idiotic.  What is going on… Joe pa at Penn State, Occupy everything, the economy, politics, sex scandals, harassment allegations, the world is going NUTS!

Mob mentality, in its most simple definition, is being shown by Penn State as I type this.  Riots to SUPPORT a man who “should’ve done more” BUT didn’t! One person starts not being able to handle his/her anger leads to misguided attacks, this attack stimulates others in this once peaceful protest, this protest now becomes a riot.  America, Penn State, World…. GET A GRIP!  How morally wrong, how bad of a person do you have to be to say a man(one who KNEW about child sexual abuse and did nothing… that’s right, NOTHING) should be allowed to continue his career as an NCAA football coach when obviously he does not have the moral compass a human being should possess.  Yes, I admit, he’s human.  We, as humans, are not perfect.  We, as humans, make mistakes on a daily basis.  We, as humans, are the most imperfect beings on the planet.  However, we, as humans, are instilled with morality and ethics.  We, as humans, have something no other living thing on this planet has.  This thing, like I stated before, is morality.

There is so much wrong with this world.  Greed, Gluttony, Lust, Immorality, Envy, Pride, Envy… could it get worse?  The reasons these problems are existing right now in this world are due to a lack of compassion, caring and ethics, but also, it’s due to an overall sense of most people believing they are self-righteous and should have things given to them.  I am guilty of it, you are guilty of it, every person on this planet is guilty of self-righteous or selfish thoughts.  But, if you are in a national (even international) spotlight where people look up to you and see you as a powerful figure, you need to hold yourself with class and dignity.  Joe Paterno, did not and obviously cannot do this.  I don’t feel bad for Joe Paterno at all, he made his mistake, he knew he was making a mistake, he continued making a mistake, and to me, the magnitude of this mistake is unforgivable… the mistake he made is nothing more than a disgustingly selfish act by a man who cared about his career and his football team so much that he let illegal actions take place and he didn’t do anything about it.  Joe pa… hindsight is 20/20 for sure, and I’m glad you see that, but I learned morals and ethics as a child, I know right from wrong.  If this is something you did not learn until now, in your nearly 85 years of life on this planet, I can only say, WOW.  Now, as a community, as a sports community, as a human community, we have a few choices.  We can proceed as some Penn State students see fit and riot his “hasty and wrongful firing”, we can see this man as he truly is, a human being who made disgustingly immoral decisions to protect a friend and assistant coach of his, or simply forget about Penn State, Penn State football, Joe Paterno, and everything about College Park and just pray for and keep the 8 young boys who have been sexually harassed by Jerry Sandusky in this Penn State debacle in your thoughts.

Occupying everything is not going to fix things.  Occupying wall street, occupying Oakland, occupying Orlando, and occupying random cities everywhere is not going to bring our country out of recession, it’s not going to do a thing.  The reason I say this is solely because, you “occupiers” as a whole do not know what you are protesting.  Everyone is protesting something different.  Talk to the majority of anyone occupying somewhere, then talk to the person standing next to them, I bet you will actually see something quite humorous… confusion between 2 “occupiers” within feet of each other.  How about we try this. Stop thinking you DESERVE things, and WORK for them.  Stop blaming others for misfortunes your own actions have caused.  Stop occupying places with a “cause” you can’t even define as a group.  Stop complaining.  Stop being stupid America.  Enough is enough.  It is time for each person to take responsibility for your life!  Take responsibility for your decisions and actions, but most of all, if you cannot take responsibility for your own life and what it has become at least have the courage to say that.  But seriously, STOP OCCUPYING CITIES AND GO FIND A JOB! There are plenty of jobs, McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Wal-mart, K-mart, Burger King, Publix… the list goes on and on and on and on and on.  You are NOT too good for these jobs, you, as an American citizen, should be instilled with a spirit of hard work, the spirit of our Fore Fathers.  Work for what you want, fight for what you want, but seriously stop pointing fingers at others to sweep your own bad decisions and mistakes under the rug. It’s time to take responsibility for your lives.  It’s time to get back to work.  It is time to fix this world that is becoming nothing more than an immoral and unethical breeding ground for so many people.

Followers, readers of mine, if you know me or read my posts normally, you know I am not usually one to post about current events going on, politics, or anything that may cause uproar.  But this is my call to you!  Make a difference!  Fight for what you want!  Let me say this again, fight for what YOU want!  Take the road less traveled and begin to make and live with the decisions humans must make daily.  Let’s start fixing the world by fixing ourselves first.  Morality and ethics are 2 things that could begin to make this downward spiral our planet is in start to turn upright.  Look at yourselves in the mirror, seriously look.  If you can realize all the good things in your life rather than focusing on the negative, the world will become brighter and the world will become a better place with time.  It’s up to us, this is our world, this is our planet, we are all one human family, make ethical choices, make good decisions, take responsibility for your life, work for what you want and need, but most importantly

“Be the change you want to see in the world.”

-Mahatma Gandhi

In my opinion, quite possibly the most amazing use of alliteration ever! This might be one of my favorite speech’s made in any movie ever! This amazing speech followed by another great part of the movie, V’s recitation of “Remember remember the 5th of November”!

Evey: Who are you?
V. : Who? Who is but the form following the function of what and what I am is a man in a mask.
Evey: Well I can see that.
V. : Of course you can, I’m not questioning your powers of observation, I’m merely remarking upon the paradox of asking a masked man who he is.
Evey: Oh, right.
V. : But on this most auspicious of nights, permit me then, in lieu of the more commonplace soubriquet, to suggest the character of this dramatis persona. Voila! In view humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the “vox populi” now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin, van guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition.
The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous.
Verily this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it’s my very good honour to meet you and you may call me V.
Evey: Are you like a crazy person?
V. : I’m quite sure they will say so.

Getting fixed

Contemplation of life and what life has to offer leads to some of the most incredible human emotions a person can have.

What does life have to offer?

Can I learn from my mistakes?

How will I get through this next day after all the times I’ve messed up?

Can I get out of moving in reverse?

I want NEED something to ignite me!

For everyone, there is a guide.  For me, it’s my relationship with God.  It’s been a relationship I’ve had for a really long time, a relationship that I’ve let suffer but still one that I hold on to and cherish.  I know every time I am struggling, every time I am in a corner, every time I need help to get out of a funk, and every time I need someone to help push me along this road we call life….

I have someone to look towards,

someone to pray to,

someone who will help me not only get by,

but truly conquer ANYTHING!

Religion is a touchy subject, one that causes fighting and arguments far too often.  But religion is something that the majority of people believe in.  It gives me something greater than myself to believe in.  It gives me more than hope.  After all, the coincidences of life can’t purely be coincidence all the time…. can it?  There has to be someone out there playing a role in my life,

I believe it, I know it as fact.

For someone else, maybe it’s not God that you believe in, maybe you believe in no higher powers.  Whatever you believe in, there is something that guides you out of the dark, a light for your path, something that guides you back to reality and out of the dark.   Stop trying to fight for what you want and really dig deep to find what you need.

What is it you truly need?

Love? Life? Happiness? Confidence? Family? Friends?

Life is no more than a roller coaster.  A roller coaster of emotions and happiness from day 1.

As a baby you are happy one second than hungry the next, only to be satisfied soon after and tired shortly after this.

As a child, optimism for what the day has to come and disappointment for not getting that one thing you so desperately wanted.

As a teenager, relationships and friendships are nothing more than their own personal roller coasters of ups and downs.

The list can go on and on, but for me, I find strength and confidence in my every day knowing that I have a “light that will guide me home” and someone who will not only try to fix me but will, in time succeed in making my life more than what I can even imagine.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11

What gives you hope?  What will fix you in your times of need?

For me, I can without a doubt say God, family, and friends.

For you?
